Over the street and down the road, alongside the hilly road on the eastern plains of Colorado live the most glorious field of Black- eyed Susans.

They get up every day and follow the sun. Lady Bugs like little red globes chase and race across the most luminous of yellows.

To see this field is to smile, to stop and take in this wondrous sight. Everyday I pass I give thanks and offer my prays for peace.

But all this is about to change!

The developers are here hungry to transform the field of gold to field of folly.

As I watched the hawks soar and dive, the rabbits dart and dodge, I think how much our mother earth has to sacrifice before we find balance and harmony.

How slow we grow to peace and understanding when it is freely given from smiling yellow faces coming from the earth!

The Blackeyed Susans have their eyes on us as they wave a fond farewell!
